Yesterday was my four month check up with Dr.Hootkins & Dr.Crout. These two are the major decision makers of my healthcare regimen. Casey went with me for the first time since I was really "sick". I love having him along at the doctors so he can see first hand what the doctors are telling me and celebrate the good news!!
Dr. Hootkins (the kidney doctor) basically said I'm as normal as a "normal person". My blood counts are normal, kidney counts (that matter) are at their lowest ever, and he actually said he was 'dancing a jig' because the paperwork looked so great. He is a hilarious man... he had Casey and I rolling in the office! Gotta love Dr.Hootkins, at least Casey does! He always leaves his appts. saying how funny he is and how he really owes my health to Dr.Hootkins being so creative and proactive with all the treatments, most of which were purely experimental. The only problem he saw was that my thyriod levels are showing an extremely hyper-active thyroid...therefore my medication has been adjusted. This could be one causes of the very sleepless nights like I had again last night. I am only sleeping 2 or 3 hours a night, the rest of the time I either watch tv or play on my iPhone, it's very frustrating!!!
Dr.Crout (the Lupus doctor) was pleased as well with how I looked on paper in my labs and in my physical exam. He said "if it's not broke, we aren't gonna fix it". -- you gotta go Texas doctors and their slang. Ha! We literally were in Dr. Crout's office for maybe 7 minutes at the most. Probably not worth the $20 co-pay, but I'll take it... no complaints! I have my return visits w/ both of them in late February... much better than seeing them every two weeks like I was!!!
Then it was on to shop for the much anticipated recliner. [We are selling Casey's beautiful, solid oak desk to make way for more sitting room. As of now, his desk is just supporting a computer that doesn't work, so it's REALLY a waste of space to me. And I see no reason to just buy Casey a new computer to only download music on.] First stop was Star Furniture. Whoa nelly, these were all out of our price range. We just played the part of the interested buyer, took her business card, and once we were in his truck we burst out laughing. I knew there was an Ashley Furniture in South Park Meadows but this meant driving down IH 35 in 5 'o clock traffic... ugh. But we did, and Casey didn't even kill anyone :) Getting closer to Ashley, we passed a Rooms To Go. We pulled in there to just look, but we knew we'd find something at Ashley we liked better. We shopped around, Casey sat in a lot of recliners, and fell in love with this beautiful, leather glider. AND it was in our price range! But, I still had to see what Ashley had. So we drove there, found one that we kind-of liked and it matched our existing living room furniture almost perfect. Problem was, the other one was sooo much more comfortable. Needless to say, we got back in the truck and both agreed to go to for comfort instead of matchy-matchy and get the one at Rooms To Go. We were both getting hungry after all this shopping and of course, we decided on sushi. I don't know if it's even normal, but we have an obsession with sushi like no one else I know. I cannot go to Austin without eating it! We found a place in SouthPark Meadows called "Haiku" where the rolls were $2.99. We got really excited and ordered six of them. I am sure we looked like a couple of country bumpkins in there, but we can eat some sushi. We ordered a roll called the 'dynamite' not knowing what was in it... maybe we should have asked. It was pretty much pure wasabi. If you don't know what that is, just don't eat the green stuff they put on your plate a sushi restaurant unless it's diluted into soy sauce... it's very potent. I think at one point I had tears in my eyes. We left two pieces on our tray... sorry Dad!! Our entire bill was only $21.00 for both of us... I wish I could eat there everyday.
All in all, I would say it was a pretty great Friday afternoon.... now I just have to get started on my Saturday and doing homework and laundry. Have a great weekend, everyone!

I love the recliner!!! Great choice! So glad your appointments went well too! I should Jason with you guys to eat sushi! He eats it like every possible chance he gets!
ReplyDeleteDid you say sushi? Josh and I are obsessed too! We go about once a week! We know so many good places. Here are some favorites:
ReplyDeleteMidori, Osaka, and Kobe! They are all off of Anderson Mill & 183. I wish I could eat it every single day!!!
