There's a first time for everything!

Yesterday was Casey's 25th birthday --- and I was home all day b/c it was my day off and I didn't have a subbing gig..... so, I really had no excuse to not cook Casey a fabulous birthday dinner. Let me preface this by saying that I have NEVER fried anything in this house, and we've lived here for two years October 16th. I just don't like the smell is leaves in the air, the grease it leaves on the stove, and quite frankly... I really don't think "fried" is a healthy route to go. But, to make his birthday as special as possible I broke down and decided to make Chicken Fried Steak. I got the recipe from this mother, had all my ingredients sitting out, and ordered him not to come in the kitchen. Well, about half way through he said "you're making chicken fried steak, I can smell it". At that time I thought it was appropriate for him to come in the kitchen...AND HELP ME. Boy, I had a mess. Flour was everywhere!!! But my kitchen and I survived, and the CFS was great!!!

Hope he doesn't expect me to do it again for a year, I told him it was only a "special day" meal. He also requested buttered noodles and a salad, so that kind of countered-acted the pound of crisco I had to use for the CFS.

  1. I hate the way fried food smells up the house too! Even if you light a candle, you can't get rid of it for days! Though, we loved fried okra and squash in the summer (from the garden)! We started taking the FryDaddy outside on the back porch and doing it that way! :)

  2. I second that! Hate, hate, hate the fried smell! I like the idea of taking the FryDaddy out on the pourch. I don't have one though. I might not get my money's worth out of it since I'm back on WW though! Unless I save all my points :) You're such a good wife to sacrifice a stinky house. Just think though... it can't be as bad as Allsups!

  3. Glad I'm not the only one who will sacrifice the delicious fried meals just to keep my house smelling clean! Oh, I hate how that smell lingers!
One of the best investments we made last year was to get a grill that had a burner on the side ... so if we do fry something we try to fry it outside on that grill burner! It works awesome! It's worth standing in the cold in the winter time too!
