casey tends to not complain too much with all the injuries he's suffered from job related accidents... so when he came home friday night shivering and shaking because the pain was so intense, i knew it had to be bad.
the story goes like this.... friday evening, around 9:30, he was still at work moving cattle. he was on his horse known as "empty head" or "grasshopper". that tells a lot right there! anyway, the horse spooked and instead of casey having the horse land on him, he bailed off to the side and landed on his left palm -- forcing all of his body weight on his left elbow.
he thought maybe if he took some tylenol and went to bed it would magically be better saturday morning. Wrong. however, he got up and went to work anyway. the phone rang at 9:30am -- conversation is as follows:
Casey: Hey. What are you doing?
Kaley: It's Saturday morning...I'm still in bed.
Casey: Well, do you think you take me to the ER?
Kaley: Um, I suppose I can. Is it your arm?
Casey: Yeah, it's hurts worse. I think it's broken.
Kaley: Okay, let me brush my hair and teeth, and put on a bra. Come to the house, I'll drive you.
we get to the nasty Gonzales ER and thank god, we beat the crowd. sign in, they take us back... and we sit. and wait. they decide to do xrays so i leave the room, go out to the waiting room to discover that it is completely packed with sick, dirty people and that is NOT where i need to be. come on people, if i can put on a bra to go to the ER you can too!
after about 3 hours of sitting there, watching casey dose off on the ER bed from all the vicodin they just gave him, and trying to stay awake myself (and keep from thinking about how hungry i was), the strange nurse guy comes in and wraps it up in a fiberglass splint while the doctor explains that the radial head of the elbow (where the radius and ulna meet) is basically split down the middle. lovely. no wonder it hurt like heck!
he goes on to tell us we will need to see an orthopedic doctor in the next few days to get a 'real' cast and make sure no surgery is needed. however, only 5% of these breaks need surgery. watch us be that statstic!
so for now, casey just has a splinted arm in a sling. it's very swollen and that is why they couldn't cast it right away. poor guy. can't even bathe himself. :(
i am no x-ray tech so it's hard for me to see the break... but this is the general area of where it is.
not a very happy camper... the first thing he said was "how am i going to hold paisley?" gee, thanks casey! not how are you going to hold YOUR WIFE? haha

Ouch! Hopefully no surgery!
ReplyDeleteHow is he going to hold Paisley ... That made me laugh!
ReplyDeletePoor guy!
