I just want to reiterate how important my sister's latest blog is. You can find it here.... lacey's blog.
I stress this issue not only because I was and am a potential recipient, but because there are sooo many people out there waiting on YOU to selflessly give what you can no longer use (after you are deceased) or what you can live without right now! It's as simple as that.
Organ donation can take place two ways... living donors & deceased donors. Obviously there are some that we are only able to recieve upon the death of another. When this is the case, upon that persons death, they have to be registered (click on the word) in a database for their organs to be successfully donated to a recipient. Unfortunantly there are untimely deaths and this issue is overlooked because we never know when our day will come.... but it just takes a couple of clicks on the computer to change that!
Living donation is also very easy. You also register at the website link above to be a potential donor & life saving hero for that someone in need. Most living donations are in the form of blood bank donations and kidney transplants.
Below is a full list of organs/tissues that can be donated.....
The heart, kidneys, pancreas, lungs, liver and intestines are organs that can be donated.
As well as the corneas, skin, bone, heart valves and tendons are considered tissues that can be donated.
It does not go without saying however, that there are stipulations to being an organ donor. Please check with the website or a local donor center to find out if you are eligible.
PLEASE seriously consider organ donation..... it could save someone's life!
I love you guys! I think this is an excellent post :)
